Focus MENAM – Pier 94 Special Projects

March 58, 2015

Pier 94, New York City

CRG will be presenting, as part of the Focus MENAM curated by Omar Kholeif, Circle of Confusion by artists Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige. This work consists of an aerial view photograph of the city of Beirut mounted to mirrored glass panels. The photograph is perforated into 3,000 segments. Visitors are invited to take a segment representing a small part of the city, revealing a portion of the underlying mirror. The action of removing segments can be viewed as a deconstruction of the image of the city, calling into service our imagination to fill in the voids where the city vanishes. This work stands as a metaphor for the perpetual mutation of the city of Beirut.

Jumana Manna

Focus MENAM – Booth 643

March 58, 2015

Pier 94, New York City

CRG is pleased to present a one-person exhibition of works by Jumana Manna. Manna is an artist who uses film and sculpture, weaving together the methods of historian, anthropologist and performer to produce works that occupy multiple forums. Manna methodically submerges herself in each project, engaging intimately with her subjects to produce a practice that questions the limits of the body in relation to historic narratives of nationalism. She has exhibited internationally from Sculpture Center (NYC), The Bergen Assembly, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (NO), Performa13 Biennial and The Jerusalem Show VII. Forthcoming exhibitions include Chisenhale Gallery, and Beirut Art Center.
