Opening reception: Thursday, April 15, 6-8pm
Siobhan Liddell’s new body of work at CRG titled “Ordinary Magic”, ranges from assemblage on stretched linen to sculptures on tables and cut paper objects. Corresponding to works hung on the wall, Liddell has constructed a series of modest wooden tables that occupy the gallery floor, each with a glossy surface, that serve as individual stages for arrangements of materials.
From piece to piece Liddell reveals the rudiments of a language formed through the precariousness of placement and materials centered on the medium of paper both in its nascent form and as recycled ephemera. Liddell’s sensibility is present in her works through the registers of quiet and association that appear evolving, held together by the subtle presence of thought and afterthought that linger within each composition. Seen together this body of work is the accumulated fruit of prolonged engaged play, describing an underlying fragility constituent to human experience.
