07_a-magical-substance_jm_neta-elkayam-morrocanMats Stjernstedt, who was previously named curator of the Nordic Pavilion at the Fifty-Seventh Venice Biennale, will curate a group exhibition titled “Mirrore.” for the biennial. The show will feature six artists: Siri Aurdal, Nina Canell, Charlotte Johannesson, Jumana Manna, Pasi “Sleeping” Myllymäki, and Mika Taanila. According to Stjernstedt, “the artists in ‘Mirrored’ present a mapping of connections that override the national and regional boundaries, and instead track a more multifaceted view of how artistic practice may connect.”

Siri Aurdal, Charlotte Johannesson, and Pasi “Sleeping” Myllymäki are all considered artists who utilize urbanity and digital and outdoor space in their work in a way that is ahead of its time. Mika Taanila works in film, video, and sound. For this show, Taanila will use montage to create a cutout project of cinematic literature. Nina Canell works in sculpture, and Jumana Manna uses film and sculpture to explore how power is articulated through relationships and across national boundaries.
