POSTS TAGGED ‘ TONICO LEMOS AUAD’
MAY 29, 2012
Above is artist (and occasional Modern Painters contributor) Jack Dylan scratching away at the surface of Tonico Lemos Auad’s Reflected Archeology, on view through June 22 at CRG Gallery in New York. While Mr. Dylan is indeed a rebel, this particular act of audience participation is welcomed by Auad. The silvery substance on the wall is removed, line by line, using pennies found on the floor; the images underneath, according to press materials, are from “Cirio de Nazare, an annual Catholic processin of two million people through the streets towards the Shrine of our Lady Nazareth, where attendants celebrate their fortune and ask for, through various physical tokens, further good luck.”
For our part, we scratched a few cat heads into the piece, and also tweaked someone’s heartfelt “Sous les dalles, la mer” into “Sus les dalles, la merde.” Because we are 13 years old sometimes.
