Russell Crotty

By Ken Johnson

Mr. Crotty’s astronomical interests are realized in his best show yet. Using a fine-point black pen, he draws landscapes with starry skies on white, beach ball-size spheres. Suspended on thin wires, seven of these globes hover through the gallery, creating the ambience of a Minimalist sculpture installation. The artist’s drawing simultaneously dissolves the surface into illusory spaces and pulls you in for close inspection of the finely textured surfaces.
