“Summer Pictures” Exhibition

The Julie Saul Gallery presents a summer group show curated by fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi. The selection of artists is highly personal, even eccentric, and fully represents Mizrahi’s idiosyncratic world view. He has either collected or long admired each of them. Although extremely diverse in terms of age and aesthetics, the group is unified by an original, sophisticated and compelling sense of color and a sensual, joyful quality. Central to the concept is the Wayne Thiebaud painting representing a confection which he is making specifically for the exhibition A large mural-scale painting by Julia Sherman at the entrance will introduce the show. This rigorous and playful geometric composition by Sherman, a relation of Mizrahi’s who was active painting in the 1960s and ’70s, demonstrates the kind of art and aesthetic sense which influenced him as a young man.
