VISUAL ARTS: ART FOR SALE 20 X 5 DRAWINGS @ THE EAGLE GALLERY, LONDON
— By SUE HUBBARD
Sam Reveles, a Native American visiting London, creates figurative landscapes that he then obliterates with fierce gestural marks that possibly suggest ecological destruction or the erasure of history, while Jane Bustin’s Darkness Visible I-V, a series of nearly black rectangular pastels that move from dark to light, form a delicate, painterly eclipse. Nicky Hirst’s Untitled pages of ink drawings are a complete sequence with an implied narrative, rather like the line drawings of a Victorian children’s book. Subodh Gupta, from India, has done drawings of luggage sitting on airport trolleys or roped on to lorries, which speak of migration and rootlessness.
These works can be bought individually or as complete series. Prices are from pounds 250 to pounds 700, excluding VAT. Sequential discounts are available.
20 x 5 Drawings, The Eagle Gallery, 159 Farringdon Road, London EC1 (020-7833 2674), to 14 November
