7. Some people love clowns, some despise them, and others (like the allegedly coulrophobic P. Diddy) are absolutely terrified of them. The New York artist Rhona Bitner has photographed all types of circus performers but says her clown shots elicit the most feedback. She addresses those reactions in her latest work – life-sife portraits of professional clowns. “A clown’s make-up is a mask,” Bitner says. “The mask is smiling, but the person may not be.
